Follow these 3 simple steps:

STEP 1:

RECOGNIZE THE SYMPTOMS

It’s important to recognize the signs and symptoms of low blood sugar, especially when it’s an emergency.

Talk to your doctor to make sure you understand the signs and symptoms of severe hypoglycemia and the risks of prolonged hypoglycemia.

Early symptoms of low blood sugar may include:

  • Sweating
  • Drowsiness (feeling tired)
  • Dizziness
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Irregular heartbeat (palpitation)
  • Anxiety
  • Tremor (feeling shaky)
  • Blurred vision
  • Hunger
  • Slurred speech
  • Restlessness
  • Depressed mood
  • Tingling in the hands, feet, lips, or tongue
  • Irritability
  • Abnormal behavior
  • Lightheadedness
  • Unsteady movement
  • Inability to concentrate
  • Personality changes

If not treated early, hypoglycemia may worsen and the person may experience severe hypoglycemia. Signs of severe hypoglycemia include confusion, seizures, unconsciousness, and death.
